Perma Power, who produced the first radio-controlled garage door opener in 1955 is acquired by Chamberlain.

The 1st patent is obtained by Chamberlain Group for a receiver system. Garage door openers no longer need Dual In-line Package (DIP) switched to set radio codes.

The industry's 1st wireless keyless entry system is introduced by Chamberlain Group, resulting in easier access for homeowners.

U.S. Congress amends a federal act requiring all residential garage door openers are sold with infared safety sensors, a life-saving Chamberlain Group invention that becomes standard for all garage door openers nationwide.
